8 August 2017 16:00-19:00

This year Riga got UrbanSketching movement and we want to celebrate it with first UrbanSketching Summer School in Riga. UrbanSketchers Riga organise it together with artist from Indonesia Rudy Murdock.

Everyone interested is more than welcome to participate, learn to sketch and support exchange of drawing practices from the other parts of the world. We hope this is a beginning of a beautiful tradition and we will organise second and third and… seventeenth (at least) UrbanSketching Summer School of Riga some day.

The legend behind the summer school is very simple and airy - as we want to continue. We had a conversation with Indonesian artist Rudi Murdock and he said that he would like to visit Riga some day. Some time later the idea of Summer School appeared and we saw how the dreams come true - Rudi can get to Riga and Riga can have the international plain air.

Alina Beitane

I love to discover the world around me, especially in a visual way! Currently I study architecture at university, but I also have background in fashion design. So urban sketching is a perfect way for me to feel, understand and remember new places, meet nice people and get bright experience, it is beautiful way to relax as well. I also use urban sketching as a tool to analyze the urban environment - perspective, scale and materiality are my favorite topics! I will be glad to share my experience and make new discoveries together!

Agnese Aljena

I am a professional photographer (with some awards in Px3 since 2010), on my way to PhD, writing about value management in visual fine arts, in love with drawing for the last 4 years, started urban sketching in 2015 and joined postcard urban sketchers in 2016. I am learning to live slow, real and creative life. Sketching for me is a kind of meditation, joining with myself, with surrounding, immersing in the environment and coming back relaxed and more connected. Initiated UrbanSketchers movement in Riga in March 2017.

Hi, my name is Masha Zurikova. I'm a freelance illustrator, painter and sketcher currently based in Riga, Latvia. I am convinced that beauty is everywhere. The most important thing is to be able to find inspiration in any ordinary event and to follow your heart. I am painting with oil and watercolors to show my vision of the natural beauty.  I make illustrations and fast sketches of everyday life. Urban sketching is very important part of my self-exploration and self-expression journey, that always reminds me to stay mindful and seize the moment.
